Dr. Vikram D. Bakhru currently serves as Managing Director of Application Prep and has been with the company since our founding in 2008. As a former medical school admissions committee member, Vik has helped to transform the recipe for success among Application Prep clients interested in applying to medical school or to joint degree medical programs. Vik is currently a physician at Main Line Health System outside of Philadelphia. Previously, Vik served as the Chief Medical Officer for A&K Global Health, a private equity portfolio company that facilitates high quality, affordable medical travel. Prior to joining AKGH, Vik served as a Director at New York Presbyterian Hospital/The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell in New York City where he had exposure to how major academic medical centers recruit and evaluate talent. This proves invaluable to our many clients who seek employment in the health care sector.
Prior to his role at NYP, Vik lived and worked in Central America as an entrepreneur in the health care services realm. During his time in Central America, Vik also continued his work with the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), a non-profit he founded while completing his medical studies at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Washington, DC. FIMRC (www.fimrc.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing health care access to children in underserved areas of the developing world. FIMRC now boasts a team of over 3,000 full-time staff and volunteers who work hard to further develop FIMRC’s self-sustainable revenue model and the world’s first non-monetary model of micro-health insurance.
Before medical school, Vik earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The George Washington University as part of the Seven-Year Integrated Medical Program. After his undergraduate and medical education in Washington, DC, Vik pursued a surgical residency in Philadelphia and subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his position at Application Prep and continuing his work at Main Line Health and with FIMRC, Vik serves on the Board of Directors for several organizations including the Nanubhai Education Foundation (www.nanubhai.org) and The George Washington Alumni Association (www.gwaa.org). Dr. Vik’s professional affiliations include membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
Vikas Gupta currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Application Prep and has been with the company since our founding in 2008. As Director at Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. (“Omega”, NYSE: OHI), a public Real Estate Investment Trust (“REIT”) located in Hunt Valley, MD that provides financial and capital to the healthcare industry, Vikas has exposure to a multitude of professionals in the finance and healthcare industries. At Omega, Vikas is an integral part of the management team where he develops new business relationships, structures/underwrites transactions, and manages certain aspects of Omega’s $2 billion portfolio of owned assets. Prior to joining Omega, Vikas was a Senior Loan Officer at CapitalSource Bank in Chevy Chase, MD where he managed a portfolio of over $500 million in loans and leases to healthcare companies across the United States.
Alongside his career in healthcare finance, Vikas has been a key member of the management team for the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (“FIMRC”, www.fimrc.org), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing health care access to children in underserved areas of the developing world. Vikas joined FIMRC soon after its founding in 2002 and has been involved primarily in the areas of recruiting, public relations and financial affairs. Currently, he serves as FIMRC’s Treasurer and is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Vikas earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in Biology/Pre-Medicine at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. During grade school and while in college Vikas had planned to pursue a career in medicine, but after working in the field of finance for a few years, Vikas decided to change his career path and remain in the areas of business and finance. Today, Vikas is able to pursue his passion for healthcare, business and entrepreneurship through his work at Omega, FIMRC and Application Prep.
